All trips offered by Black Heron Fly Fishing are conducted by professional fly fishing guide and casting instructor John Kendall.
John has fly fished the 10 western United States over the last 50 years and guided since 1989 in Oregon and Washington giving John over 15 years experience as a professional fly fishing guide.
John is also a graduate of Oregon State University with a BS in Science. A 13 year stretch as a professional science teacher at the high school level provides him a great ability to interpret nature and supply his customers a richer point of view. As a scientist he has the ability to show you varied points of view on insects for fishing and matching the hatch to the migration of the geese and other creatures found on our trips.
As a fly castiing instructor he has taught at Oregon State University, Portland Community College, Larrys Sports Center, GI Joes, Bob Sporting Goods and Black Heron Fly Fishing. John has been a featured speaker at many clubs in the Pacific NW, such as Lower Columbia Fly Fishers, Cowlitz Fly Anglers, Puget Sound Fly Fishers, South Sound Fly Fishers, Portland NW Steelheaders, Portland Kiwanis, Cleveland High School outdoor program, Rainland Fly Casters, Clark Skamania Fly Fishers and many others.
Fly Tying is Johns first love inside the sport developing his skill at a young age approximately 8. His father and grandfather were both ardent tyers and fly anglers promoting his habit at a young age. Growing up outside The Dalles, Oregon on The Deschutes river provided John the essentials he would need to continue his fishing career catching his first steelhead at 10 and his first fly rod steelhead at age 12. And there begins the story which has not ended yet.
We encourage the customers to come be part of our dream catching these wonderful fish on a spey or single hand fly rod.
